Review of the Hunter 27_75-84 by Oliver van Mierlo

Year built 1978
Location of boat Monnickendam (Hollland)
The boat is sailed on Bays, sounds, or protected salt water
How the boat is used Multi-week coastal cruising
Normal wind strength 16-22 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 2000
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? I regret the fact that I've never had the chance to know more about Hunter boats because they were'nt sold in Holland. This particular model has great lines giving you great performance on speed and stabillity. Also good interior space will give you enough comfort in less nice weather. I prefer this paticular model above the new ones in the Hunter midsize range just by their appearance. Also good value for your well spend money
Gear that's been added I added a Navik selfsteering divice and a genuafurler, both working well.
Structural or complex improvements I changed the upholstry and stuffed the backs of both back seats for more comfort, changed the glass of deckhatch.
The boat's best features Speedperformance, space
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. The engine, a Yanmar 8 SB has given me no more problems after replacing a few minor parts
Sailing characterisitcs Has a bit of trouble pointing toward wind courses For all other courses she performs just great. I clocked speeds on GPS up to 7.7 knots
Motoring characterisitcs A Yanmar 8 SB engine is not all that strong but gives enough power to leave or enter harbour, even in rough conditions, and after all its a sailing boat, now is it?
Liveability A lot of space, good cooking space, places to sleepare, if you're not over 1.85m tall, OK
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) I did'nt, altough I had a lot of help and information through this well equipped site
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any I did'nt
Other comments If you're a "starting" sailor, perhaps with a small family and with low budget this is the perfect boat to start with.
