Review of the Hunter 20 by Chip Freund

Year built 1984
Location of boat Columbus, Ohio
The boat is sailed on Lakes
How the boat is used Day sailing
Normal wind strength less than 10 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 2001
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? We will have to wait and see. I just bought. It appears to be the right boat for our family. It has many of the features of a "big" boat, yet it is easily trailered and is laid out in a thoughtful manner. I will post an update in the spring after the fall/winter re-fit.
Gear that's been added We will be adding a bulkhead-mounted compass, depth sounder, knot meter, VHF radio, Windex and AM/FM/CD stereo. We will be replacing the cushions in the cabin and changing the trim stripe from red to "Hunter" green.
Structural or complex improvements None yet and I hope never . . .
The boat's best features Its layout and design are perfect for a small family (mom, dad + 2-3 kids). Big enough to be comfortable even for an over night.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. Nothing yet. Then again, I have sailor her yet . . .
Sailing characterisitcs Stay tuned. The previous owner says she's an easy sail, even single-handed.
Motoring characterisitcs
Liveability I don't think we try to spend more then a couple of nights on her. It look like it will be a bit like camping.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any)
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any
Other comments She's perfect and she's just sitting the driveway. I can't wait till spring when we plan to launch her!
