Review of the Hunter 23.5 by Kris Christiansen

Year built 1993
Location of boat Arizona
The boat is sailed on Lakes
How the boat is used Day sailing
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew solo
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 2001
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? I sure would
Gear that's been added UHF, Knotmeter and depth sounder,Furling Head Sail Bimini, and a lot of misc. items
Structural or complex improvements None to my knowledge
The boat's best features Ease of launching and loading cocpit area and roominess of cabin
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. Raising the rudder,I wrote to the factory and they sent me a complicated winch system that attached to the boom, totally rediculous. I drilled a hole in the rudder and attached a line and now it is easy to raise.
Sailing characterisitcs Very easy to sail, very little helm pressure. at 20 degrees of heel it sails like a dream. When I put the furler on I put on a 120 Genoa, the boat is not as fast as it was with the Jib but is faster in light wind, The problem is that the Jib sheets are outside of the shrouds and will not allow to trim in close to the main.
Motoring characterisitcs I have a 8 hp Johnson and she motors well, no problems
Liveability Haven't stayed overnight but plenty of room
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) Friendly and helpfull except for the rudder raising recomendation which was stupid
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any Bought the boat from "the sailboat shop in Tempe AZ, nice people but they need to take a little more interest on how boats are rigged by there personell, to many problems had to be corrected
