Review of the Hunter 23 by David Hass

Year built 1986
Location of boat Eustis, FL
The boat is sailed on Lakes
How the boat is used Day sailing
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard?
Owner bought the boat in 1986
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes, with a few adjustments such as a drop axle trailer.
Gear that's been added roller furler, swim ladder
Structural or complex improvements
The boat's best features forgiving, fun to sail. fast against other similar boats. great for week-ending
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. rudder "seam" continually splits, motor mount had to be replaced
Sailing characterisitcs good to weather, definitely rolls on beam reach
Motoring characterisitcs 5 hp nissan is reliable and ample, unless one is forced to motor in the ICW around Clearwater on a weekend...
Liveability fine for an overnight or maybe 2 nights when ice (or lack of) becomes an issue
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) very helpful and courteous
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any very conscientious, but didn't continue to sell Hunters for very long.
