Review of the Hunter 33.5 by Bil Thomas

Year built 1988
Location of boat Deale, MD
The boat is sailed on Bays, sounds, or protected salt water
How the boat is used Day sailing
Normal wind strength 16-22 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 1999
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes. The previous owner took great care of the boat. It has performed to all of our expecations.
Gear that's been added Added a Lowrance Sonar/fishfinder with knot log, temp, etc to replace the orginal depth and log which did work well.
Structural or complex improvements Had to rebuild the rudder. It was delaminating when we purchased it.
The boat's best features The room and the ease of single handling.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. Sealed deck port. Have had to rebed.
Sailing characterisitcs With a new UK main it points very well. We have been able to point higher and sail faster then friends with similar or larger boats. Have to reef earlyt to keep the speed up and the weather helm in check.
Motoring characterisitcs Under powered but the engine is reliable.
Liveability Excellent. We do overnites and have friends aboard alot.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) none
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any Dealt with Tidewater in Annapolis, MD. They did a a great job with very little pain!
Other comments We enjoy sailing it. THe care of the previous ower has made it easy to keep it up. We often get comments from people asking if it is a 1998 model not the 1988 that it is.
