Review of the Hunter 23 by Jeff Rehberg

Year built 1987
Location of boat Lake Lanier, GA
The boat is sailed on Lakes
How the boat is used Day sailing
Normal wind strength less than 10 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard?
Owner bought the boat in 1997
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Definitely!
Gear that's been added I have only added a grill. Previous owner added a depth sounder, knotmeter, compass, bimini, ladder and stereo. More gear to come.
Structural or complex improvements None.
The boat's best features It's very fast and easy to sail. It's my first boat and I sailed it well the first time.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. Stepping and unstepping the mast is very difficult. Feels very large and heavy when trailering.
Sailing characterisitcs Sails great in light and medium winds. Heavy winds can cause uncomfortable heel for a new sailor and crew. Sailing downwind is still somewhat of a mystery to me. Overall she handles very well.
Motoring characterisitcs 6 hp Honda does OK but don't expect to get anywhere too quickly. Exceptionally stable.
Liveability More headroom would be nice. Cooler is in a difficult place to get to under the step. Other than that, it has a nice layout below and is a great weekender.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) NA
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any NA
