Review of the Hunter 23 by Ted Sonntag

Year built 1989
Location of boat Lake Chautuaqua, NY
The boat is sailed on Lakes
How the boat is used Day sailing
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard?
Owner bought the boat in 1992
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes. It seems to perform well in all conditions. I sail in a fairly shallow lake so the shallowdraft 2'3" really helps out
Gear that's been added Ran halyards, outhaual, and jiffy reef to the cockpit.Mounted a transom ladder.
Structural or complex improvements No
The boat's best features The boat is easy to sail, has a good size cockpit, and has a decent interior layout
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. The trailer was underdesigned. I think they should have used rollers instead of bunks.
Sailing characterisitcs They boat seems to perform well to windward considering the shallow draft. It seems hard to handlle running wing on wing.
Motoring characterisitcs Motors fine with the supplied 5 HP outboard
Liveability The boat is well laid out. The main cabin converts to a full size bed which is very comfortable.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) I have only dealt with Hunter once and they were fine.
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any None.
