Review of the Hunter 310 by Thane Paulsen

Year built 1998
Location of boat Yankton, SD
The boat is sailed on Lakes
How the boat is used Weekends and longer
Normal wind strength 16-22 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 1998
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes. Our marina has a Catalina dealer so there are not many Hunters in our slips. I've had dozens of comments about how my boat " is the best looking boat in the marina" (I love my arch) and I consistantly place high racing the 310 against larger boats (Catalina 320, for example)
Gear that's been added Autopilot, stereo (with speakers in the round arch access points) and extra house battery. Added a halyard for an existing genaker.
Structural or complex improvements No
The boat's best features Traveler on top of the arch, points to wind well. Big, roomy cockpit.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. I had to replace our battery charger in year one (warranty item, no big deal.) I did have minor blisters last fall upon haul out. I'm anxious to see what I'll have this fall....
Sailing characterisitcs Sails well to windward, points very high. I also have a NorthSails genaker which is great for light air downwind sailing and broad reaching.
Motoring characterisitcs Rather slow, but no problems. Engine vibrates quite a bit; wasn't installed in perfect alignment...
Liveability Could use more head room in aft berth. The Hunter 336 is much better, but I realize it's also a bigger boat...
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) Favorable
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any All experiences favorable
