Owner bought the boat in 2000
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes. We bought this boat for a really good price ($2200). It was in very good condition and fairly well maintained. The main was in good condition. The multi-colored genoa is in very good condition and the jib is in good condition. The wood work needs to be cleaned and varnished. The boat serves us well as my husband and I sail with our two small children (4yo and 6mos) and we stay over one night on weekends. It's easy to sail and maintain. Given that we'd like to have company join us more often...when we buy again it will be a Hunter 26.
Gear that's been added We've added Sunbrella Bimini and sailcover. We've replaced fuses and switches on the control panel. We still need to rewire the mast. We've add an accessory plug to run DC powered accessories from.
Structural or complex improvements We do not plan any structural improvements. Only general maintenance as in re-wiring the mast and cleaning/sanding/varnishing all wood inside and out. We are having the bottom painted this winter and the sides buffed. The deck non-skid surface needs to be redone as well.
The boat's best features Easy to sail, easy to maintain. Swing keel is wonderful!
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. Mast wiring. Location of the control panel causes frequent mishaps with the switches being broken. We do require "rail meat" during strong winds...which makes single handling with both sails up in gusty winds difficult.
Sailing characterisitcs The boat does heal with gust and then rights itself once it is powered forward. More weight in the keel ballast would help.
Motoring characterisitcs We have a 3hp Mercury outboard and it is very sufficient for lake sailing that we do.
Liveability It's a one nighter if you have more than one person! A couple or a single person could do weekends on it. A week would be pushing it. Headroom is just not there...so slumped shoulders and back and neck aches are common.
