Review of the Hunter 26 by Ron Mehringer

Year built 1997
Location of boat Lake Hopatcong, NJ
The boat is sailed on Lakes
How the boat is used Day sailing
Normal wind strength less than 10 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 1999
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Absolutely.
Gear that's been added Boat came with CDI roller furling, VHF, ST30 Bidata speed and depth guages. I added a Raytheon ST2000 tiller autopilot, a outboard/rudder connecting link and a Unisolar 10W solar panel.
Structural or complex improvements Nope.
The boat's best features The Hunter's best feature is its roominess. You get a good sized cockpit and a cabin that's unusually large for a 26 footer.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. No problems.
Sailing characterisitcs I'm amazed that the boat moves as well as it does. I can catch and pass any boat on the lake in light to moderate winds. She is a little tender, but that's to be expected with the boat's high freeboard and wb.
Motoring characterisitcs Moves at hull speed with very little throttle.
Liveability The boat's large cabin makes it very comfortable below. The kids make good use of the large table for activities they do below while we sail. Keeps everyone happy.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any)
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any
