Review of the Hunter 28 by Chris Mead

Year built 1992
Location of boat Erie, PA
The boat is sailed on Lakes
How the boat is used Day sailing
Normal wind strength less than 10 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 2000
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? You bet. I love the step-thru transom...rigged to the cockpit nicely...easy to learn everything. Sails nicely.
Gear that's been added Signet electronics a mess. Only the knotmeter works reliably. Replaced the radio, batteries.
Structural or complex improvements Nope.
The boat's best features I really like how easy it is to sail -- rigged with everything at hand and the step-thru. I think the yanmar is cool, too.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. Minor pesty leak in a forward bulkhead that doesn't drain to the bilge...can't seem to find the darn thing. Wanted a second, heavier anchor -- got it...wouldn't fit in the locker. That was a bummer so it ends up in one of the cockpit stowage areas.
Sailing characterisitcs Points well..
Motoring characterisitcs Yanmar makes a good engine ... knock on teak.
Liveability sleeps 6 (right.) really would do fine with 4 adults if you had to but we sleep 2 adults in the after cabin with 2 kids on the v with no problem whatsoever.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) No experience
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any Good experience from broker in Holland, MI -- can't remember the name right now.
