Review of the Hunter 450 by Robert Scott

Year built 1998
Location of boat FL
The boat is sailed on Open ocean
How the boat is used Weekends and longer
Normal wind strength 16-22 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 1998
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? NO!! - I have had so many problems with this vessel. It has been a disappointing experience with many problems and issues still unresolved by Hunter and my dealer (who is now out of business). I feel as if Hunter has been very unconcerned with assiting me to solve these issues.
Gear that's been added Just small items - it came with the cruising package.
Structural or complex improvements No
The boat's best features It's ability to sail in all kinds of weather well.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. Leaky mast - faulty macerators, surface cracks, misaligned fridge/freeze doors, oil and water sensors defective, staysail stationary support defective, replaced engine w/ less than 200 hours on it. And the list goes on.

The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) With the exception of Greg Emerson - I get the distinct impression that they (Sr. Management) have no interest in standing by their product.
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any The dealer whom I purchased the boat from is now out of business and Hunter refuses to stand by their work.
Other comments This is my second Hunter - I've also had Catalinas, Yorktowns and several other sailboats. I like the Passage 450 very well. It's Hunter I have issues with and their refusal to stand by their product.
