Review of the Hunter 320 by Steven Styles

Year built 2001
Location of boat Port Huron, MI
The boat is sailed on The Great Lakes
How the boat is used Weekends and longer
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 2001
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes, but I would visit the factory as it was built. While I have been impressed with the engineering, the workmanship is sometimes lacking.
Gear that's been added House battery bank, A/B Coldmachine, 2000 Watt inverter, Autohelm 4000, Raynav 300 GPS, ST 40 Wind, ST 40 Digital Compass, cockpit cushions, asymetrical spinnaker, water accumulator tank.
Structural or complex improvements
The boat's best features Well engineered boat. There are a fair number of leader lines within the conduit to aid in after marker installs.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. The wiring was sub-standard. There were quite a number of exposed power/ground wires in the overhead when they used butt-splices with more than one one wire in. All will be repaired by the dealer.
Sailing characterisitcs It isn't in the water yet. I'll update later.
Motoring characterisitcs
Liveability I,m tall, so the headroom was one of the main reasons we bought the boat. The layout was what we were looking for as far as cabins for us and the grandkids for week or weekend trips.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) So far, they have been easy to deal with, but they are a little slow in the follow through. I sent about 1/4 of the owner's manual back to them with errors highlighted. They promised an updated and correct version, but I am still waiting. As an example, the fuel tank is listed as 24, 25 and 28 gallons in different places. Also, the evaporator is for the coldmachine is shown in the middle of the oven.
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any Excellent. Port Sanilac Marina has been very good to deal with. We took 3 months to buy the boat, and they ansered a lot of question before and after the sale.
