Gear that's been added Assymetrical SpinnakerKnot Meter, Depth SounderPressurized Water Faucet
Structural or complex improvements Faired Centerboard and Rudder. At speeds over 5 knots the old shapes cavatated through the water and caused vibration and slowed boat.
The boat's best features Sailing ComfortLarge Cockpit
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. Poor centerboard and rudder shape. As stated above I had mine re-shaped or faired.Shroud U-bolt backing plates rusted and consequently stained hull. I removed them and had them poliished to a mirror finish. This has stopped or slowed the corrosion process.Tiller extension holder (clip) is very fragile. The legs keep breaking.Stanchion caps fall very easy and get lost.Round rubber bumpers on cockpit lockers need replacing about twice a year.Headsail sheet fairleads should be adjustable to improve headsail shape and trimmability. This is very important due to the small headsail on the Hunter 23.5.
Sailing characterisitcs Pretty good upwind performance after submerged appendages were faired. Reaching and Running pe
