Review of the Hunter 23.5 by Harry Ames

Year built 1994
Location of boat Logan, UT
The boat is sailed on Lakes
How the boat is used Weekends and longer
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard?
Owner bought the boat in 1994
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes, only I would look for a more reputable dealer who would be in business longer than one month after he sold me my boat.
Gear that's been added Compass, BBQ, curtains
Structural or complex improvements no
The boat's best features Roominess, ease of trailering, shallow draft with keel up. flush cockpit sole.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. Excessive gelcoat checking, trailer is ok but marginal and needs lots of attention.
Sailing characterisitcs Very tender in winds above 10 knots. Have to get used to the heel in higher winds
Motoring characterisitcs Motors nicely with Tohatsu 5 horse.
Liveability Just great for two. Beyond that, don't even think about an overnight. Head is a joke. We have moved it out to the middle of the cabin and made a nice cover for it. OK with just the two of us on-board. Other find it disconcerting. Must constantly reconfigure the cabin for sleep, eat, sail. Not a surprise with a small light trailerable though.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) Got me a replacement mast in reasonable time after a careless driver snaged it in a parking lot while trailering his boat mast down.
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any Cant find my dealer any more.
