Review of the Hunter 240 by Eric C Lindstrom

Year built 2000
Location of boat Ithaca, NY
The boat is sailed on Lakes
How the boat is used Weekends and longer
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 2000
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? We probably wouldn't buy this boat again due mainly to the tenderness both at dock and underway. The water ballast really shows it's power while heeling ... and we're generally not heeling.
Gear that's been added We have made numerous modifications and alterations to our boat including: 1) Addition of the stern rail 2) Nav station/radio panel 3) Jam cleat replacement 4) Access panel on sink countertop 5) "Gate" on swin platform Among others.
Structural or complex improvements
The boat's best features The mast raising system is ingenious! We bring our boat as far north as the 1,000 Islands and as far south as the Chesapeake and I can do the entire process (from dock to trailer to destination) solo.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. Last season after a long drive the centerboard wouldn't drop.
Sailing characterisitcs The boat sails like a dream and the cockpit allows for great manueverability. We once hit 10 knots on a downwind surf so we know the boat's got it in her.
Motoring characterisitcs
Liveability We spent 10 hot days on board in Annapolis with a 2-year-old ... nuff said.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any)
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any Our dealer in Ithaca, NY is the best. A plug for McPherson Sailing Products.
