Review of the Hunter 30_74-83 by Joe M

Year built 1975
Location of boat Salem MA
The boat is sailed on Bays, sounds, or protected salt water
How the boat is used Weekends and longer
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 1998
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Absoulutly - this is a great boat for a 30 foter
Gear that's been added New main - stereo
Structural or complex improvements No
The boat's best features Number 1 is room, I've been on many other 30's and the Hunter just seems to make the most of the available room. Number 2 is sailability - this is the easiest boat I have ever sailed, very forgiving and stable. I am also very pleased with the way she points, I have the model with the swing keel and it makes a difference.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. This boat will not back up and even with the upgraded 13.5hp Yanmar is underpowered.
Sailing characterisitcs Excellent all around sailer except in light wind. When the wind drops below 7-8 it's time to think about motoring.
Motoring characterisitcs As I said earlier, she is underpowered and won't back up (much worse then other boats I have owned.
Liveability Only on weekends so far but very nice, Probably much better then most campers.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) No
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any No
Other comments I love the boat.
