Review of the Hunter 212 by Michael S. Morris, MD

If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes, A lot of boat for the money, great layout, good seating room.  
Gear that's been added New main and jib sheets: the supplied sheets were too short. 5 HP 2 cycle long shaft Tohatsu- still a bit too short: the motor mount is too high off the water  
Structural or complex improvements Will have to design and build a cabin locking system. The decking just aft of the passageway is a removable lid with rubber hinges. Not well thought outfor securing the cabin.  
The boat's best features Size, layout, price.  
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. Currently, the main doesn't go all the way up. Hull imperfections were reported to the JY company. A promt e-mail response was sent from the JY president: he promised a service call. So far, no follow up: 2 weeks have passed.  
Sailing characterisitcs Sluggish, but fun. When the main fills after tacking, watch out! the boat will nearly roll! the large main must be respected.In spite of rolling waves of 1-3 feet, the open transom did not admit water.Room for 3 kids, a spouse, and a dog: impressive on 21 ft!  
Motoring characterisitcs Needs at least 5 hp to move.  
Liveability With hatch open, the cabin is light and well vented. Too small for any serious time below.
