Review of the Hunter 31 by Dennis Duncan

Year built 1984
Location of boat Ventura,CA.
The boat is sailed on Open ocean
How the boat is used Weekends and longer
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 2005
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? I have been out of sailing for 20 yrs, so a lot has changed. I am still trying to get confortable with the boat. My wife loves the room below and the lay out.
Gear that's been added
Structural or complex improvements We have replaced the water heater and pulled all the ports and resealed them. Replaced the bow light and wireing and all the hoses for the head.
The boat's best features It does sail quit well and handles the heavier air quit well. Down below is real conf. and has a great lay out compaired to other boats.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc.
Sailing characterisitcs A little comberson in the cockpit. Small, but I am use to a tiller and having full access to all my controls. I just need to get use to a wheel.
Motoring characterisitcs It is my first Diesel, so I get nervous. We had the engine gone thru when we bought the boat and had new motor mounts put in. The Yanmar 2gmF has run great in all conditions.
Liveability Great! We stay on the boat 5 to 6 days at a time. We have moved from the V berth to the aft quarter berth. Much better.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) No resposne from them on any questions I have had.
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any Great.
