Review of the Hunter 466 by timothy heck

Owner bought the boat in 2003  
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes I would. I really wanted to buy the 456 as the aft cabin is something of a fantasy for me but the more practical move is to get a tricabin which will accomadate a larger crew if needed.  
Gear that's been added The options we added was the autopilot. Never leave home without one. A forestay for a future conversion to a cutter rig. A chartplotter of course who can resist them. Rubber dingy and life raft. We do go over the ocean yes? Air conditioning and genset where included in the dealer package and since we are chartering the boat thruough Florida Yacht we bouth their cruising package which outfits the boat quite nicely. I want to put a roller furling foresail on with a self tending traveler.But haven't done that as yet.  
Structural or complex improvements not yet but a self steering mechanisim may appear soon.  
The boat's best features Room baby. The Island Packet and the Moodys have larger boats that we liked but they cost $300,000 more and do not give you the same living space. Air conditioning is very important in Florida.  
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. One port is leaking and we didn't have the generator working right on our first sea trail. In comparison the Island Packet we tried the mainsail could not be unfurled by the owner on our sea trial. Not cool.  
Sailing characterisitcs The boat is going about 7 knots in ten to fifteen knots of wind. Docking is still hard but the boat is new to us.  
Motoring characterisitcs No problems thus far. The sea water strainer could be a bit more accessable howerver.  
Liveability Great this is the water condo that most of us are lookikng for.  
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) Thus far everything has been fine.  
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any The dealer was very honest and tried to help us as much as possible. We are happy so far.
