Review of the Hunter 146 by J Mashburn

Year built 2003  
Location of boat Evans, GA  
The boat is sailed on Lakes  
How the boat is used Day sailing  
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots  
Average size of crew 2-4  
Liveaboard? No  
Owner bought the boat in 2002  
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? YES. The boat is fairly stable  
Gear that's been added YES; (1) Added a Harken micro block w/ shackle to boom outhaul to make it easier to adjust the mainsail while sailing. (2) Added motor mount. (3) Added tie down strap to secure boat on trailer; dealer would not provide as part of the rig. However, they (Select Yachts) provided scrap carpet  
Structural or complex improvements I have raised the winch up on the trailer to keep it from pulling the boat down so hard  
The boat's best features The best features are: the open space within as this allows the crew to move around with ease  
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. There needs to be a way I can take the rudder off the boat without taking it apart each time. The design does not allow you to lift it off the transom without taking the tiller off first.  
Sailing characterisitcs The boat is very reponsive  
Motoring characterisitcs I have not placed a motor on this boat yet. I will try this in the spring. However a paddle works nicely.  
Liveability N/A; unless you like sleeping under the stars. I may try it one clear evening...in the spring.  
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) So far they have answered my questions  
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any Friendly and prompt delivery.  
Other comments I wish the owners manual for the H-146 was available as I currently have a stapled booklet that describes the H-140
