Review of the Hunter 22 by Dean Vermeire

If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? In a heartbeat.

Structural or complex improvements No  
The boat's best features My Hunter 22 has a fixed keel, unlike most others that I have seen. As a result, I have a boat that is easy to handle and stands up well to a stiff breeze. I don't have the weather helm problems that others have mentioned.I chose this boat over Catalinas and even the Hunter 23.5, which had been introduced by the time I bought my boat, because of the nice interior with plenty of teak and holly. It is a good small boat that sails like a much larger boat.  
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. I have cracked the skylight - the companion way sliding cover. Hunter no longer has replacement parts, and I have not been able to find a replacement anywhere else. If you know of a solution, please drop me a line.  
Sailing characterisitcs Points very high with a 110. Much faster than the PHRF value I've been given in most regattas.  
Motoring characterisitcs I have a 5.5hp Seagull motor, which is not quite enough power when being chased by a thunderstorm. Other than that, handles very well and turns on a dime.  
Liveability Sails 4 adults, feeds 4, sleeps 2. It helps to not be too tall.  
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) Somewhat helpful, but not when it comes to tracking down new hatch covers.  
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any Purchased from a private individual.
