Liveaboard?
Owner bought the boat in 1999
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes. Bought in April 1999and never sailed before. Have sailed more than 1,200 miles since, singlehanded. Several 150 mile round trips to Cat Island. Sail 50 miles every weekend. Race Wednesday nights.(Boat is not a racer- but I beat everyone in the
Gear that's been added Gas grill, EPIRB, AM/FM/CD, TV, Tiller tamer (cheap autopilot- a string!), windmeter, weather radio, dingy, propane stove (instant beats alchohol), Rod holders, GPS, depth finder, refrigerator, microwave, oil lamp, barometer, porthole mirror, Tool belts behind cabin seat backs with lots of pockets for
Structural or complex improvements Replaced lost centerboard- Foss Foam in Fla is OEM for Hunter- very helpful, but $$$. New bottom job. Refinished woodwork.
The boat's best features Points high. Easy to singlehand. Safe. Less is more- I setup and takedown in 10 minutes- I watched a 42ft boat owner spend 2 hrs to do same.Design is great-good stowage, space, cockpit area-table is nice for
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. No problems. Boat new ropes/pulleys. Original sails still look good after 18 years.
Sailing characterisitcs Points high- easy to handle, a good starter boat- slow, but not compared to similar sizes.
Motoring characterisitcs 8 hp is good- cruise at 6 MPH easily-had to motor 64 miles dead into 3.5 ft seas and 20 mph winds, but felt safe and in control. Top speed is 7.5 mph.
Liveability Longest stay was 5 days- no problems except I ran out of ice. Adequate, compact, requires that everything be in its place.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) Marginal- they didn't know anything about centerboard, pulleys, specs or who built it.Owners manual I paid $15 for had 3 pages on my boat (later model) and 15 pages of
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any
