Review of the Hunter 22 by Clark Mason

If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes I would. I've only had it 6 months and sailed it about 6 times but it is a good value. There's plenty of things that require attention but nothing major.  
Gear that's been added Nothing yet. I have a float charger for the battery that I plan to install soon but the boat has pretty much all I need.  
Structural or complex improvements No. There is shallow bird bath around the mast step that I'm not sure if I'll do anything about except make sure there is no leakage.  
The boat's best features I really like the style and traditional look of the interior as well as the cockpit. Plus, I got the boat for a good price :-)  
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. The mast is stepped several inches in front of the compression post and that area has become a bit depressed over the years. Why in the world did Hunter do this? I've seen it from other manufacturers but that doesn't justify it. I also have a wiring problem with the mast that'll be repaired when I haul it out in the next few months. Until then, it'll be just a day sailer.  
Sailing characterisitcs The boat moved well in light air and can handle stiffer gusts pretty well. It does display weather helm.  
Motoring characterisitcs Moves fine with a 5hp Honda. No currents to deal with so cannot speak to that.  
Liveability This boat is almost just right for us. small enough to go out on short notice yet plenty of room below to get out of the sun or rain.
