Review of the Hunter 356 by Chris Szewczuk

Year built 2001
Location of boat Sydney Australia
The boat is sailed on Open ocean
How the boat is used Weekends and longer
Normal wind strength 16-22 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 2001
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? "Yes" We took this yacht out for the first time on Sydney Habour and through the Heads with 20/25 Knots of wind. She loved it, put the first reef in and she loved it more. We had not even had time to tune the rig or adjust the sail as this was her first shake down sail. we look forward to even better things to come. She is going to the whitsunday's end of Janurary into Whitsunday Escape Charter Company. We just know she will be very popular. Will keep you informed.
Gear that's been added Treveller on arch, refrigeration, dodger, bimmini, inverter, anchor windlass, electrinic wind inst, cockpit cushions, out side arch mounted lights and speakers, electric winch. Third lifeline, ( needed for off shore) GPS, BBQ ( for the shrimp)
Structural or complex improvements Not as yet.
The boat's best features Sailability, livability, seawothyness, forgiving, speed is nice, great cockpit although the new H356 does not have as many drink holders as the H340. Great bunks or should we say real beds. A good night sleep is a must at sea. Love the head and galley. Have yet to find something not to love with her.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. A couple of little things needed taking care of. Wash board is big and cumberson, strange door lock for the shower.
Sailing characterisitcs Wait till we have more time with her but at this stage she is awesome. Cant wait to put her up against other yachts.
Motoring characterisitcs Quiet, responsive turns like they all do on her own length, reverses into a marina berth with on trouble even if the wind is in the wrong direction. we were thinking that she may need a bigger desil and put a three blade prop on. We have a deep keel and rhis also helps.
Liveability Don't know yet will wait and let you know how the Charter Company finds her.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) Great guys, very helpful.
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any
Other comments Will keep you informed one sail is really not enough.
