Review of the Hunter 320 by Steve Dale

Liveaboard? No  
Owner bought the boat in 2002  
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes - for the budget.  
Gear that's been added Auto Pilot - boat was in Club Natique Charter group. Previous owner added cruising spiniker and BBQ. Upgraded stereo.  
Structural or complex improvements No  
The boat's best features Cockpit very comfortable. Kitchen very comfortable. Makes great impression - we get lot's of complements.  
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. Microwave did not work - no help from saleperson. Boat was well maintained in Cruising fleet.  
Sailing characterisitcs Sails well, overhead traveler takes some getting used to but have learned to like it. Easy to reef.  
Motoring characterisitcs I was surprised that the 18 horse motor engine was adequate.  
Liveability Wife and I have spent a week at a time on the boat and have been quite comfortable. Boat has a refrigerator, could use more battery power. This will be my next project. We get lots of complements about the boat.  
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any)  
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any Bought this boat used from the original broker and they were quite frankly terrible. Sales person knew little about the boat, but always made a comment that was implausible. Bought the boat because we liked it despite the dealer. Previous owner took a bath on this one because of placement in cruising fleet. Few people succeed in this scheme because the club members will alway select last years model, making the previous years model undesirable. If you come to the dealer for a new boat, they will try to talk you into in this program. Great place to buy slightly used boat, well maintained, where previous owner takes a loss.  
Other comments We are happy with our hunter. Wanted a Catalina 32-34 and initially settled for hunter, but I am not unhappy about the boat. Wish there was a Hunter club in SF Bay Area.
