Year built 1983
Location of boat Seymour, IN
The boat is sailed on Lakes
How the boat is used Weekends and longer
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 2013
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Probably not due to the condition she was in but I would have bought a Hunter 20 had it been a nicer one.
Gear that's been added So far we have added, a grill, solar panel, controller, battery, all new wiring, all new led lights, a solar cabin vent fan, cabin lights, stereo, vhf radio, GPS/chartplotter/depth finder, new cabint in the cabin, and I am sure I am forgetting some things. Oh, new sails, and a jib furler. A tent enclosure for the pop top and a cockpit tent cover as well.
Structural or complex improvements RE enforced the stern wall where the rudder pins attach, repaired damage to the stern, repaired damage in the keel trunk from the keel rubbing on the trunk and wearing through the resin and into the fabric.
The boat's best features We really like the pop top as it makes it feel like a much larger boat.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. Our boat was probably not maintained the way she should have been through the years and she showed it. We totally stripped her down, pulled the keel, and redid her from the bottom up repairing everything we found. For her age and treatment she probably held up better than some other boats would have.
Sailing characterisitcs Being our first sail boat we do not have much to compare her to but she has been very forgiving of our errors as we have learned. Overall we are very pleased with how she sails and we look forward to seeing what difference new sails are going to make.
Motoring characterisitcs We have used a 3 1/2 hp Nissan 4 stroke for the past two seasons and on a inland lake it has worked very well. Even with the long shaft if one of us goes forward in following waves the prop will come out of the water. Just part of the outboard issues with sailboats.
Liveability It works well for us on weekend trips. We will be spending a week aboard her next summer. Will update after that trip.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) They sent me what little literature they had on the boat which was basically copies of the sails brochures.
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any
