Review of the Hunter 430 by Kevin Hagenstad

Gear that's been added None....she came with everything under the sun.  
Structural or complex improvements  
The boat's best features Even though my boat is 14 years old, the styling makes her look practically new. In no way does she look her age. Also, the amenities for the price. Generator, watermaker, A/C, ice cold freezer, hot water heater, etc....  
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. The B&R rigging prevents me from sailing downwind very well. Everything on a yacht is a tradeoff, however, and not having a backstay is very nice. Also, the stanchions stick out slightly and have a tendency to push on pilings, docks, etc.  
Sailing characterisitcs One word: fast. Has lots of sail area, so I can start furling the main in around 15 knots of wind. Points well for a furling main and shoal draft, but absolutely screams on a beam reach. Can pound when beating upwind in rough seas.  
Motoring characterisitcs 7 knots at 2,200 RPM with a Volvo MD-22L. Backs down very nicely...very predictable in reverse.  
Liveability Very comfortable!! Not a ton of storage due to the sheer number of "goodies" such as inverter/charger, A/C, etc., but the layout is superb. We love the galley / main salon area and the humongous forward head.  
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) Good, not great. Ordered exterior gelcoat and received beige after giving them my serial # and color of exterior (white). I mean, really....how many beige 430's did they build? Any?
