Review of the Hunter 410 by Steve Feinsilver

If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Absolutely  
Gear that's been added Dodger added by Island Nautical (great job). Still trying to get Bimini built that can attach to arch.  
Structural or complex improvements None  
The boat's best features Stable, reasonably fast, and extremely easy to sail. Have roller furling main which makes singlehanding easy. Cockpit big enough for ballroom dancing. Air conditioning is great. Solar panel for engine battery is great idea; never worry about starting power.  
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. Gauge for forward head is stuck. Delivered with minor problems (hose clamp loose on engine, roller furling on jib came loose, etc.). Mostly flawless in first season. Have noted many complaints about refigeration but ours has been flawless. Considering adding to battery bank. Don't like the way the two house batteries are wired together, may change this.  
Sailing characterisitcs Roller furling main takes some getting used to- once I figured out that the loose foot should not be tensioned all the time, light wind performance better. Have sailed happily in just under 25 kts. Very easy to reef both main and jib. Will probably add cruising spinnaker for light air.  
Motoring characterisitcs Motors 7.5 kts at 2800 rpm (when bottom is clean). I don't bother to push engine harder than this. Two blade prop that came standard is OK by me.  
Liveability Outstanding. More space than most boats this size. Cockpit huge. Aft cabin spacious. Forward cabin is best for one adult or two kids. Air conditioning is great, but lots of hatches make it less necessary. Would like a hanging wet locker somewhere other than head.  
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) This is my second Hunter- had a 1982 H33.5, so I must like the company. No problems with this boat, but when the stanchions on my 33.5 self-destructed by freezing (as on many others), Hunter was spectacularly unhelpful.  
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any Long Island Yacht is occasionally overwhelmed, but generally tries hard to make customers happy. This is my second Hunter from them.
