Review of the Hunter 37-cutter by Steve Cunning

Year built 1981
Location of boat Oshawa Ontario
The boat is sailed on The Great Lakes
How the boat is used Weekends and longer
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 2002
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? I feel this particular Hunter to be of good quality, (Cherobini design). I am pleased so far with the layout and performance and feel this is a good bang for your buck!
Gear that's been added Not yet!
Structural or complex improvements No
The boat's best features 9 tons 5ft 2 in draft good livaboard cruiser
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. I think they should have had a couple of spreaders on the mast as mine has a hook in it and cant take it out with the shrouds, anybody got idea?
Sailing characterisitcs Sails fairly well, doesnt point very well to weather with a furling jib and 5ft 1 in draft
Motoring characterisitcs Terrible!!! that 2QM Yanmar needs to go... "Thumpin Leena" we call it. Very dependable though motored most of the way from florida had very little problems.
Liveability Spacious galley and salon area. If you are tall forget the aft cabin or vberth
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) dealt with a hunter dealer, very good experience.
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any
Other comments If you want to get into that size of boat its a good bang for the buck.
