Gear that's been added Chart Plotter, New Propane Cook Top, Microwave, Cabin Lights, Solar Vents one in each hatch, Handheld VHF.
Structural or complex improvements Reworked the Engine Cover in the Cockpit Sole, by replacing the original cover. First had to rework the sole flange with 1x2 oak glued and screwed up under the flange. Next made a new cover with an Inspection Hatch. Now proper "underway" engine room inspections can be done simply at any time. Oh, did I mention how nice it is to have a removable cover over the engine? So nice for major work on the engine, like re-torque the head bolts. Many other sailboat owners I know are jealous of the great engine access in this Hunter. Front, Side and Top.
The boat's best features Interior space, especially the Head Compartment. Very decent head room throughout the boat. Sailing ability. This Hunter balances beautifully and stands up well to her rig, very stable. Overall robustness of construction in the hull and the liner.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. Galley as original left much to be desired. And desire I did and I changed things easily and now it is a joy to work in. There really is a lot of space in the galley that can be used better by simply removing the original configuration and opening things up.
Sailing characterisitcs Sails beautifully! No surprises, no bad behavior and balances beautifully. Very stable, stands on her feet and when it's time to reef she'll let you know gently. She doesn't bury the rail or sail on her ear. When it pipes up she just digs in and powers ahead. This boat makes very very little leeway, even on a beam reach. I can't wait till I have the time to really stretch her legs.
Motoring characterisitcs Plenty of power with a 3 bladed prop. Very fuel stingy with her Yanmar 20hp two cylinder engine running at 4 knots at less than 1/3 WOT. Probably has a range of over 500 miles with the 30 gallon tankage. Handles very well, even backs well once under way.
Liveability Very liveable with big roomy cabin, comfortable big berths all in excess of 6ft. Great headroom throughout. The head is really a nice size and comfortable for all uses. Another great feature are the 10 opening ports and 2 opening hatches. A joy on nice summer days there is no chance of hot and stuffy ever happening down below in this boat. Wouldn't have any boat that didn't have this feature.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) No contact with Hunter.
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any Broker was honest and did a good job. Not many like to work in boats of this age and price but he did it proper.
Other comments Love the boat for so many reasons. The designer did a great job and Hunter did a great job building a robust boat that carries its value and performance well into the future.
