Year built 1980
Location of boat Niantic Bay, Connecticut
The boat is sailed on Bays, sounds, or protected salt water
How the boat is used Day sailing
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 2002
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes.
Gear that's been added None added.
Structural or complex improvements Replaced cheek block and stand-up guiding the main sheet into the cockpit.
The boat's best features Affordability, strength, sailing ability.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. LORAN C - got good signals but cannot get it to track. Water tanks are coated with black mold.
Sailing characterisitcs Weathering helm above 15 knots - over come by reefing main and furling some of jib (150% genoa).
Motoring characterisitcs Once the shaft had come unbolted from the diesel and slid aft as I shifted in to reverse. Only 30 minutes to fix - will keep an eye on bolts. Motor vibrates in 1500-1700 rpm region.
Liveability Good livability. Do not use the kerosene stove - have a pressurized gas "hot plate" and a grill outside. Relatively water tight living compartment. Nice head.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) No experience.
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any N/A
Other comments Great boat. Entire family loves her.
