Review of the Hunter 35.5 by Kevin

If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Definitely  
Gear that's been added Chart plotter, asym spin gear, second bilge pump in shower sump section of bilge, all new lines (over 1200 feet of it!), new safety gear, grill  
Structural or complex improvements bottom job, added thru-hull for second bilge pump, rebedded all existing thru-hulls, reglassed upper section of rudder  
The boat's best features Best bang for the buck I found in this size range. Has everything I need for half the cost of other and/or newer models.  
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. Only problems with after-market additions which had not been installed and/or maintained properly. The Yanmar had some nagging fuel leaks and was initially useful only as an anchor.  
Sailing characterisitcs Wonderful. Consistently fast in most conditions. I lost the Yanmar to the aforementioned fuel leaks while bring the boat home (~100 mile trip) and learned to sail her by myself, mostly at night, in 10 knots of breeze. It was great! The boat is rigged wonderfully for single/short handing.  
Motoring characterisitcs Very good. Responsive to rudder even at minimal speed, forward and reverse.  
Liveability Relatively spacious, nice galley layout, separate shower. Could use more hanging locker space (the aftermarket AC occupies the forward hanging locker). Loads of small item storage. I plan to move aboard this spring.
