Review of the Hunter 34 by Nelson Ramirez

Year built 1986
Location of boat Fajardo, Puerto Rico
The boat is sailed on Open ocean
How the boat is used Multi-week coastal cruising
Normal wind strength 23-30 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard?
Owner bought the boat in 1989
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Definitively YES, it is a lot of a boat for its price.
Gear that's been added I added a harken roller furling, harken traveler, addler refrigeration system, balmar 100 amps alternator and a gps.
Structural or complex improvements Various modifications, among others the most significants are listed below.1. Bronze port holes2. Integrated swim platform3. Relocated the green/red running lights from the bow pulpit to the masthead.
The boat's best features Good cabin size, sails very good.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. Wood materials and terminations are not the best. I have restored the lower teak panels of the aft cabin berth.
Sailing characterisitcs My H34 has a shallow keel, downwind sails very good. I have experienced sailing heavy seas (15 to 20 feet waves) and I have felt secure.
Motoring characterisitcs Average.
Liveability Good.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) Good.
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any
