Review of the Hunter 18.5 by Barry Sanders

Year built 1991
Location of boat KY Lake
The boat is sailed on Lakes
How the boat is used Weekends and longer
Normal wind strength less than 10 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 2001
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes. Alot of boat in a small package!
Gear that's been added 5hp Honda 4 stroke Swim ladder Halyard clutches Moved halyard winch aft to coach roof Raymarine ST40 bidata (depth & knot log) Grill Charging System. To Do List: Add shore power outlet and add 110v system Mast stepping device
Structural or complex improvements N/A
The boat's best features The Keel!!!
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. Deck fiddle block is a pain if you need to let out the main in a hurry.
Sailing characterisitcs This boat thinks that it is a 30 footer. It handles very well in winds below 10 knots. Anything above that is possible, but is not much fun.
Motoring characterisitcs This boat motors as well as any boat with an outboard. The advantage to the h18.5 is that this boat has a transom that is designed for a motor. No extra motor mounts.
Liveability Two small people can live on this boat for a week if you leave most of your "junk" behind. Planning and packing make it possible. Three on this boat is not fun.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) N/A All of my needs were taken care of by the dealer.
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any I bought my boat from Kentucky Lake Sails located in Grand Rivers, KY. They are the best!!!
Other comments Besides Alcort, Hunter is the only boat that the family has ever owned.
