Liveaboard?
Owner bought the boat in 1992
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? When my wife and I went looking to purchase our first sailboat, many brokers offered opinion that steered us toward a Hunter. We are happy that we listened to their advice and purchased a Hunter. It is a well-equipped vessel with quality components that is fun to sail. It is quite a comfortable cruiser.
Gear that's been added Previous owner added furling gear, a bimini, dodger and stereo
Structural or complex improvements
The boat's best features Comfortable cruiser with nice lines.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. Rudder developed cracks that were easily repaired by the Marina where it is docked.
Sailing characterisitcs We are Chesapeake Bay sailors who plan to take three weeks off from the drudgery of work this coming June and sail to the Outer Banks of North Carolina (Ocracoke). In the Bay, we have experienced a few 30 knot days, but normally sail on weekends in 10 to 20 knot winds to any of almost an endless number of destinations available in the Chesapeake Bay.
Motoring characterisitcs From my limited years of experience, motoring is synonymous with the months of July and August in the Chesapeake Bay. Unfortunately, therefore, I have completed several trips as a "stinkpot" to more than a few destinations during those months. The vessel does well handling this unpleasant tasking.
Liveability "excellent" - One of the strong points of the Hunter 31 is its' apparent size. Having examined a number of sailboats in the 30 to 32' range, the Hunter 31' appears to offer a tremendous amount of living space that is well designed for its occupants.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) For the few experiences I've had with Hunter, requesting replacement parts or information, I have found Hunter personnel to be courteous, helpful, and genuinely interested in assisting me with my concerns. The organization seems to have horizontal communication well in place, as my contacts were quickly able to gather from other sources or departments information that I needed.
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any The broker who assisted us with the purchase of our Hunter, Rich at Clipper Bay Yachts, deserves alot of credit for helping my wife and I, first time boat buyers, in understanding what we wanted and required. He stood by us through the entire selection and purchase process. He really has his "act" together and I would not hesitate in recommending him to any prospective buyer.
