Review of the Hunter 25_73-83 by Richard Schultz

Year built 1979
Location of boat Manitowoc Wisconsin
The boat is sailed on The Great Lakes
How the boat is used Day sailing
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? Yes
Owner bought the boat in 2002
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes
Gear that's been added None needed. However considering Harken Furler.
Structural or complex improvements Basically a very sound hull. No problems whatsoever.
The boat's best features Simple to sail, stable in medium to heavy air, a real thrill when pushed to the limits. Comfortable cabin. Great for weekend to week cruises. Fits me like a glove.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. Everything works fine.
Sailing characterisitcs Sails herself, gives the feeling of instability when just beginning to heal. Reaches 15 degrees and digs in. This is what makes sailing her to the limit so exciting. Once you know what she can and cannot do, the great adventure begins.
Motoring characterisitcs A 9.9 HP Evinrude/Johnson gives me about 5 knots. However, in rough weather, even with a long shaft, her stern rises significantly, thereby reducing headway signficantly. Steering is reverse is a problem but good tiller and motor turn coordination circumvents that problem.
Liveability Cozy and comfortable. However, I would not recommend long trips with 4 aboard. It is somewhat cramped.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) No experience
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any None
Other comments Bought used, great deal for the money. This boat is designed well and easy to maintain.
