Review of the Hunter 31_83-87 by Buddy and Cheri

Year built 1984
Location of boat Long Beach, CA
The boat is sailed on Bays, sounds, or protected salt water
How the boat is used Weekends and longer
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew solo
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 2004
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes We have had an Ericson which was an absolute dream as well as a Pearson Ariel 25'. While we are still learning to sail and making improvements along the way the Hunter is an easy sailing vessel and the In Cocpit availability to everything is outstanding. This would be a perfect liv a aboard for one person or even two but I would prefer something just a bit larger personaly. I also wopuld like to modify the aft berth area, it is a bit cramped for two but cozy for one.
Gear that's been added The winches have all been replaced as well as anti foulong paint on the bottom. Other than pulling the Alcohol Stove out and replacing it with a fridge the boat is "Stock".
Structural or complex improvements no
The boat's best features Heals fast and opoints well, a bit under powered in regards to the 2g Yanmar
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. It appears that the Head plumbing has been reworked but still causes odor under the sink, probably from past leakage which wasn't properly cleaned up. I think that the foward cabin/v-berth could have a bit more thought put into it as well as the head. Overall it is "Good". The newer boats show the thought process this model needed. There is rust on the rudder and is a typical problem.
