Review of the Hunter 25_73-83 by jim o'brien

Year built 1982
Location of boat New Bedford
The boat is sailed on Bays, sounds, or protected salt water
How the boat is used Weekends and longer
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew solo
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 98
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Probably not, too big for my needs.
Gear that's been added Shore power.
Structural or complex improvements Reseated keel.
The boat's best features Classic sailboat look. Handles pretty well. Interior space is comfortable and pretty. Stability is good. Has righted itself in white squall.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. Keel bolts are very expensive to replace. If they go, your talking 3-4 grand. Keel is the bad feature in general. Can't mount motor in a way that you can tilt it, so propellors are always in water.
Sailing characterisitcs Echo what other's say - can't sail well with one sail unless the wind is behind you. Not a fast boat at all, but that's the sacrifice for interior room.
Motoring characterisitcs Don't try motoring into a headwind and waves with a 9.9 horsepower. Might as well forget it. Otherwise it's ok.
Liveability Great. I could live on it.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) They seemed ok.
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any Mother bought at mass maritime auction.
Other comments I'll miss it.
