Owner bought the boat in 2003
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes I would. I bought her from Goodwill. Once I scrapped the grunge off and spent a few more grand fixing her up she was fine for what I wanted her for.
Gear that's been added I added a drifter, replaced all the lines, blocks and deck hardware, slapped on a new tiller, totally rebuilt the interior, bought a new motor (after the old one fell off on her maiden voyage)and put in all new electronics.
Structural or complex improvements removed and rebuilt the galley, rewired the 12v system, and strengthened the points where the standing rigging attached to the deck.
The boat's best features
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. The cockpit doesn't drain on its own. There is no traveler. Somewhere along the line somebody put mild steel nuts on the stainless steel through hull fittings where the shrouds connect to the boat. After years in a salt environment, two of the seven failed due to corrosion.
Sailing characterisitcs She doesn't seem to want to get very close to the wind. And with no traveler its a bit hard to address her weather helm.
Motoring characterisitcs I have a 6hp Tohotsu which drives her at hull speed at 3/4 throttle. I have only used the motor once or twice since we got it. I prefer to sail up to and away from the dock.
Liveability When I rebuilt the interior, I designed it to maximize day sailing at the expense of sleeping aboard.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) No experience with them at all.
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any
Other comments She's fine on a large inland lake, but she is rigged way too light for serious coastal or offshore sailing. I have no doubt things would quickly begin to break in that environment.
