Review of the Hunter 31_83-87 by Jack Schreur

Owner bought the boat in 2003  
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? So far--so good

Structural or complex improvements  
The boat's best features There is a great deal to like about this boat: lots of room below, plenty of boat for the money, boat is light on her feet and sails with minimal effort, powers effectively, easy to handle in the marina, and a good looking boat.  
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. Water tank is old and needs to be replaced.  
Sailing characterisitcs Great in light air, but when reefed solid in a blow. Weather helm doesn't seem to be excessive, boat is relatively dry, easy to handle from the cockpit. The boat handles easily enough that my teenage kids (and even my 10 yerar old) often take the wheel for extended periods.  
Motoring characterisitcs Manueverable, gets the job done  
Liveability Roomy, well laid out, we sleep two adults in the v, and two in the aft  
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) NA  
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any NA  
Other comments Hunter owners take a lot of *&^% from the owners of "real" sailboats--I don't know why..I've been a sailor since I was a kid, have owned two Hunters and think they're great boats for the $$. If you're looking to circumnavigate look elsewhere--but for most of us it is about a good handling boat for daysailing for room for the weekend and Hunter does the job very well--just
