Review of the Hunter 31_83-87 by Bill Lloyd

Year built 1984
Location of boat Panama City FL
The boat is sailed on Bays, sounds, or protected salt water
How the boat is used Multi-week coastal cruising
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew solo
Liveaboard? Yes
Owner bought the boat in 2002
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes, although now I wish I had bought about 5 ft bigger.
Gear that's been added Auto helm, new batteries, new battery charger, GPS chart plotter, BBQ grill, dingy & outboard, refrigeration, A/C, CD player, 12 Volt fans.
Structural or complex improvements no
The boat's best features Speed, handling & room below
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. water tankage is inadequate
Sailing characterisitcs Very balanced helm. Can leave the helm for minutes at a time & the boat will stay on course. Good speed up wind.
Motoring characterisitcs Handles nicely under power. The 13 hp yanmar could be a little bigger. Prop walk takes getting used to.
Liveability For the size, livability is wonderful. For one person, there is plenty of room. I have never felt cramped or claustrophic in the least
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) N/A
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any I bought from Turner marine in Mobile AL. the broker was Rick Johnson. It was an entirely enjoyable experience. Turner took great care to deliver the boat in the best possible conditiion. They fixed everything that didn't work, including some things they didn't have to. They are a first rate organization from top to bottom. I would buy from them again in a heartbeat. You sail away from their yard not only with a boat but with new friends.
