Review of the Hunter 31_83-87 by Ned Hawkins

Year built 1985
Location of boat Lake Michigan
The boat is sailed on The Great Lakes
How the boat is used Weekends and longer
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 2002
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes: Very nice boat to start with. Good speed in light winds, can be single handle well, can take heavy sea's if needed
Gear that's been added None so far
Structural or complex improvements none
The boat's best features great mechanical boat very simple. Also laid out very well for a small boat
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. Having problems with water coming in, not anything to worry about but would like to know where it is coming from, everything is dry topside, also have a small fuel leak can't seem to find it also
Sailing characterisitcs trims will can be sailed with out touching the helm if you trim right,
Motoring characterisitcs could use just a touch more power,
Liveability 31' is good for two people don't think that we could live aboard for long periods
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) Call them for owners manual, left message they call right back and sent manual and answered all my questions
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any mixed emotions
Other comments We are looking to move up to a large Hunter next year, we are very happy with our 31' Hunter and really like what direction Hunter is heading to as far as new boats
