Review of the Hunter 25_73-83 by Bill Underwood

If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes, it was a good deal and a great little boat.  
Gear that's been added New honda 9.9 outboard and bracket.  
Structural or complex improvements N/A  
The boat's best features Boat is built like a tank!  
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. The cockpit drain is one large L shaped hose which only has one clamp on each end and very hard to get to. It came off and dumped water into the boat. The settees are to narrow for an avg adult to sleep on. Your shoulders get caught on the shelf when you turn over.  
Sailing characterisitcs The boat is fast is light winds, but must reef early! The boat doesn't sail well on just the main. The big head sails are what make it go (150% or larger). The boat is quite tender and will round up on you in winds over 15 mph if you don't reef and run a small jib. Even though the boat has a 4ft draft and weighs 5000lbs is very tender and will get over on its side quickly. Sails great in light winds. Doesn't sail down wind very well the stern will waffle on you.  
Motoring characterisitcs I put a new honda 4 cycle 9.9 hp outboard on it and it motored very well for non inboard motoring arrangement. Would drive the boat at 6.5 knots or faster with 3/4 power. The boat even backs up pretty well.  
Liveability Good for a weekend or so, but with the lack of headroom and small water capacity not much longer than that.
