Review of the Hunter 25_73-83 by Toby Hamer

Owner bought the boat in 2000  
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Not this particular boat.  
Gear that's been added No.  
Structural or complex improvements Core repair to deck. Needs a lot more work. New non-skid. New windows.  
The boat's best features Overall design, lines. Looks sleek and fast.  
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. Cockpit is cramped and uncomfortable. Hull delamination, blisters.  
Sailing characterisitcs A lot of weatherhelm in a stiff breeze. Otherwise very pleasant to sail.  
Motoring characterisitcs A 6HP isn't enough. For the river and the harbor it's fine, but trying to get somewhere on the lake under power is a slow process- 5 knots max at full throttle. I would like to upgrade to a 9.9 for those times when the wind dies 5 miles out.  
Liveability Low headroom due to the sloped deck. Cockpit and cabin seating is uncomfortable. No built in coolers. It's fine for occasional overnighting, but this is basically a day sailer.  
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any)  
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any Yes. The broker and the surveyor were less than candid about the boat. In fact, the surveyor didn't even mention the blistering problem it had. Being newbies, we didn't know any better. The boat had been neglected. We probably paid a bit too much, but have learned a lot from the repair work.  
Other comments A fun little boat to bang around Lake Michigan on. We have definitely had many great sails.
