Review of the Hunter 25_73-83 by Sherman Barnes

Year built 1982
Location of boat Guntersville, Al
The boat is sailed on Lakes
How the boat is used Day sailing
Normal wind strength less than 10 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard?
Owner bought the boat in 1984
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes - but I wouldn't keep it so long - it's been time to 'move up' for years
Gear that's been added bimini, drifter, instruments
Structural or complex improvements blister repair - twice
The boat's best features traditional styling, opening ports w/screens (8 of 'em), interior wood,
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. Blisters, blisters, blisters - I've repaired them twice - did the whole bit, stripped the bottom, filled w/epoxy, did the barrier coat, then bottom paint and I have 'em againI don't like the outboard design - mine has inboard controls
Sailing characterisitcs serious weather helm - probably better that than lee helm but it's pretty serious. Mine doesn't like just main or just jib - doesn't handle well w/o bothpretty fast off the wind - not directly downwind - doesn't point well at all - I attribute that to the shoal draft keel
Motoring characterisitcs See above about the difficulty in raising the motor. Otherwise it responds well under power - but it's slow - I have a 9.9 Evinrude and it's REAL slow but dependablehandles o.k. in reverse
Liveability o.k. for 2 people if they're not large. I've never spent more than a holiday weekend (3 days) on board.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) o.k. but nothing to get exited about
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any I paid too much
