Review of the Hunter 31_83-87 by Robert Gambel

Year built 1985
Location of boat Annapolis, Md
The boat is sailed on Bays, sounds, or protected salt water
How the boat is used Day sailing
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 1998
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes, but would have preferred a h34
Gear that's been added dodger, bimini, gps, blow-up boat & motor, sail-cover, new interior covers, household sixe toilet, sail cover, inner stay and hank on, asymetrical w/snuffer, cockpit cushins, bruce anchor
Structural or complex improvements had cockpit sole redone and mast support redone (exterior)
The boat's best features interior volume, sailing ability, economy of undersized diesel, everything let back to cockpit
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. undersize yanmar, tenderness of boat
Sailing characterisitcs have done delmarva (chesapeake to delaware to atlantic ocean to chesapeak) and been in some ruff bay water, but always have come home safely, seen 6' seas in bay, and 35 knot winds, boat handled it better than crew
Motoring characterisitcs have max prop (works great for me) so boat reverses well into slip; underpower in heavy winds is v e r y slow going, steering is excellent
Liveability took out dinete and made it a settee, which is now my bunk, head is undrsized, ice-box is next to worthless, but also ate some fine meals on board, cockpit is comfortable w/back rests (sport seats)
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any)
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any broker was anxious to help sell boat
Other comments glad i bought it
