Review of the Hunter 25_73-83 by Al Brito

Year built 1978
Location of boat Jacsonville, FL
The boat is sailed on Rivers
How the boat is used Day sailing
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard?
Owner bought the boat in 1994
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? This is a perfect boat for river/bay sailing. I purchased the boat for a low price and it has performed it intended purpose wonderfully. She goes to weather well and is equally at home running. Enough room for a weekend getaway for a couple and great daysailing for 4-6. Wonderful first keel boat.
Gear that's been added New hatch, depth, compass, halyard, sheets, etc.
Structural or complex improvements None - the boat still has the original sails - and in great shape.
The boat's best features Stable - has the feel of a larger boat. Spars and running gear beefy by today's oem standards (for the size)
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. Chased a deck leak for 3 years under toerails. Deck fittings could have been better thought out.Currently experiencing difficulty getting information on replacement parts. Hunter does not seem to keep detailed records on the manufacture of older boats.
Sailing characterisitcs Tends to want to round up in a heavy blow. Very stable downwind. Otherwise nimble and quick on her feet.
Motoring characterisitcs Currently hae a Yamaha 9.9 four stroke on the transom. Doesn't back up well - otherwise does all she is asked to.
Liveability Not really a consideration outside of overnights - even for one person.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) Mixed reviews - depends on who you get on the phone - on the whole helpful but in the case of an older boat -
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any Broker - satisfactory.
