Review of the Hunter 30_88-94 by Peter Firth

Year built 1990
Location of boat Sausalito, CA
The boat is sailed on Bays, sounds, or protected salt water
How the boat is used Day sailing
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 2003
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? yes
Gear that's been added no
Structural or complex improvements No, but will lead the mainsheet forward to the mast and back aft of the dodger in the near future
The boat's best features Superb handling, well built, well cared for boat
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. Fresh water leaking into the bilges. Believe it's coming from the water heater intake from engine. Difficult access, as the back of the settee has to be removed in order to get at the screws holding down the seat platform.
Sailing characterisitcs I have only been out a few times since buying the boat, but seems very straight forward and easy to handle.
Motoring characterisitcs Had to replace the exhaust elbow. Nothing unusual about motoring.
Liveability The boat is nicely finished, could use some more storage in the galley, but is not a big problem for me as I'm not planning any extended passages.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any)
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any Haven't dealt with them yet.
Other comments Seems like an excellent starter boat. I have owned other smaller sail boats. I would like to see more solid and less veneer teak in the cabin, but also realize the market is highly competitve, and there are trade offs for affordability.
