Review of the Hunter 28.5 by Eric Fiste

If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes. The boat was a great deal considering cost, amendities, and condition.  
Gear that's been added No, not yet.  
Structural or complex improvements No, not yet.  
The boat's best features Affordability and user base. There are lots of other hunter owners out there.  
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. The through hull valves and hoses all need to be replaced. As well, it's a tight fit down below. I'm 6'4" which doesn't help, but there isn't really any good bunk space (in back is like a cave and in front is just too open). I would have rather just had one good berth area. As well, the head is not really big enough to sit in or shower. Also, it's not even a full door on the head, so privacy is an issue. Of course, I completely realize the size of the boat and my height causes most of the limitations.  
Sailing characterisitcs It sails pretty well. The boat is easy to control. It's a little slow and sometimes heels exessively, but I've been in some pretty hairy situations and the boat was solid.  
Motoring characterisitcs The Yanmar diesel is probably the best engine for that boat. It is very solid with proper upkeep.  
Liveability Not so much, but I do regular weekend cruises across Lake Michigan. It works for a few people.
